Blacklist, Season 3: Clearing Keen’s Name

Blacklist Season 3

Agent Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) now a blonde Russian spy seeking diplomatic immunity under the name Masha Rostova? Blacklist, Season 3 is off to an interesting start as Liz puts her full trust in Red (James Spader), and like him is now a fugitive on the 10 Most Wanted List. Dodging her former friends and associates with the FBI agents, they seek to bring her in for the murder of Attorney General Tom Connolly (Reed Birney). Though Keen insists she was framed, Agent Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) is not convinced that the notorious criminal group the Cabal is behind everything.

But, Red of course is dead set to clear her name at all costs. But, so is Agent Cooper (Harry Lennix), who knows Liz is innocent and solicits Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold), a fugitive himself, to help him. Cooper knows Connelly was dirty.

All the while, Red’s righthand man Dembe (Hisham Tawfiq) has been kidnapped and beaten nearly to death by Mr. Solomon (Edi Gathegi) in hopes that he’ll spill Red’s whereabouts. But Dembe is ultra-loyal to Red and regardless of how bad he gets beaten he never turns against his boss. Meanwhile, Red gets closer and closer to the head of the Cabal, sending a warning to one of his minions that they best clear Keen’s name or else.

The Russian angle, along with the fugitive Keen-Red team against the world, is definitely not surprising. In seasons one and two we see the two of them grow closer and closer. Like a father, Red has a loyalty and unquestionable desire to protect Liz at all costs. That exact connection is yet to be completely revealed, though we know that Red knew – and apparently loved – Liz’s mother.

It will be telling how Cooper with the help of Tom Keen goes about clearing Liz’s name. We’ll see how the season unravels, but so far it’s off to a decent start.
